At this plant, the sludge is sanitized by Prolonged Alkaline Stabilization and applied to agriculture (base scenario). Scenario 1 is about biogas use to dry sludge, which is taken to be used in agriculture. In Scenarios 2 and 3 the heat of the sludge burning is used for drying and sanitation. Finally, in Scenario 3 the ashes are destined to

In keeping with the cradle-to-grave concept of LCA, the energy and material flows of all processes necessary to operate the power plant are included in the assessment. The overall system consists of the production biomass as a dedicated feedstock crop, its transportation to the power plant, and electricity generation. Jan Lask Alejandra Martínez Guajardo Jan Weik Moritz von Cossel Iris Lewandowski Moritz Wagner"Comparative environmental and economic life cycle assessm Overview of background data used for the LCA in relation to effects associated with direct (e.g. biogas and s where P is typically the limiting nutrient for algae and plants growth. A biogas plant providing combined heat and power is analysed in the third example, which illustrates the importance of finding a beneficial use for the heat produced, and of controlling fugitive emissions.

The main objective of this work is to assess the environmental impact associated with biomethane and digestate production from an AD plant as Global Warming Potential, expressed in CO2 equivalents. The life cycle assessment (LCA) of two types of plants is presented as study cases: (i) the biogas power energy generation with organic waste in landfills as substrate and (ii) the biogas power energy generation using dairy cattle manure as substrate. Several recent LCA studies deal with the sustainability of a biogas plant (Dressler et al., 2012; Ishikawa et al., 2006; Lij o et al., 2015;Massaro et al., 2015;Patterson et al., 2011;Poeschl et In this work, 15 life cycle assessment (LCA) studies of biogas systems from around Europe were reviewed. Biogas scenarios in all the studies had lower GHG intensities than their reference systems. T1 - LCA applied to an anaerobic digestion plant for biomethane and digestate production.

• Climate impacts assessed using different emission metrics and including NTCFs. • Results show the influence of different metrics on the climate impact categories.

In this work, 15 life cycle assessment (LCA) studies of biogas systems from around Europe were reviewed. Biogas scenarios in all the studies had lower GHG intensities than their reference systems. The study shows that the type of feedstock, e.g. , maize, grass or animal manure is a determining factor for the environmental impacts of biogas systems.

Malaby Biogas, the UK-based operator of Bore Hill Farm Biodigester has confirmed the significant carbon negativity of its operations following a six-month lifecycle assessment (LCA). The company said the findings “drive home” the vital role that small-scale anaerobic digestion (AD) plants could play as part of the UK Government’s legally binding commitment to reach net-zero emissions by 2050 and its Biogas produced in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment facilities (BWWF) is a resource wasted in several socio-economic contexts.
